Mudita [Sanskrit; moo-dee-TAH; noun]: Delighting in the happiness of others.
Mudita Equine Bodywork & Wellness is all about taking delight and happiness when a horse feels happy, loved, safe, and comfortable. As horse lovers and riders, we ask a lot of our equine partner and we can tell when they don’t feel as good as normal. It’s our feel that kicks in to tell us the approach to a 3'6" oxer is a little sluggish behind, or that extended trot is heavy on the right front, or even if they started to become agitated during grooming. Horses rely on us to listen to and advocate for them. Routine bodywork and massage is a fantastic way to help our equine partners maintain feeling good in their body so they can “be as good a possible, be as safe as possible, and last as long as possible.” 1.
As horse people, we know when we don’t feel good in our bodies and we take action to mitigate this awareness. Don’t our horses deserve the same?

About Kate
Hi friend! I’m Kate Whittaker, owner of Mudita Equine Bodywork and Wellness L.L.C. I have had a love of horses since a very young age, began hunter/jumper riding lessons at the age of 12, and am now fortunate enough to turn my horsey passion into a lifelong pursuit of helping horses and their riders.
Prior to being a bodyworker, I worked in the corporate purchasing world for a non-profit science and research Government contractor. But in summer 2022, the corporate stress and burnout became too much and I knew I needed to make a change. With the support of my husband, family, and barn community, I quit my job and began to pursue equine bodywork certification. After completing the rigorous and comprehensive 500 study hours, I graduated from the School of Applied Integrative Therapy’s Certified Equine Bodywork Practitioner program in May 2024.
Mudita Equine Bodywork and Wellness’s journey started well before its June 2024 establishment. My husband and I had a conversation one day that morphed into curiously debating the difference between sympathy and empathy. We wondered if there was a word that had the same connotation as sympathy, but for happiness.
Was there a word that meant, simply, being happy for someone else’s happiness?
Thanks to Google, we discovered the Sanskirt word “Mudita” which means to delight in another’s happiness. Nothing had embodied my emotion when watching a horse be loved, listened to, and succeed in life more than this single word. And thus, Mudita Equine Bodywork and Wellness had its opening.
I am an advocate of the horse in all capacities and aim to help every horse and rider be the best partnership they can through through the help of bodywork. I am an enthusiastic learner and aim to add many more bodywork modalities, like Kinesiology Taping, Manual Lymph Drainage Massage, Saddle Fitting, and Nutrition, to my practice.
